Does essential oils mix with fire?

im making an ornament for my mom and dad with clay and im sticking birthday candles around the edge and i have essential lavender oils to put on top of the wick of the candle to make it smell good but i heard that if you mix oil and fire you have a cahnce of burns on your skin and im afraid that itll burn the house down
