Help with studying for a test. please?

He's telling Scout why he's trying to defend Tom Robinson in spite of what people in town are saying. His point is that to have any self-respect or any credibility, you have to have the courage to do what's right, even when it's not popular or when it may even be bad (even dangerous) for you.
