I need some clarity about a "Bones" character story?

Okay I think I missed something or I totally blacked it out. So, I'm watching the fourth season of Bones and in the 2nd episode Hodgens mentions that him and Angela have broken up! Did I miss them making that decision or are we just supposed to play along and they never actually showed them breaking up? Thanks in advance.
